Trump’s Election Could Lead To A Pornography Ban In The U.S.

Now that America has made it’s choice and elected a new president, it’s important to consider the implications of that election as it pertains to our adult industry. After all, it’s no secret that Project 2025 is now fully in play for our country. Though Trump tried to distance himself from Project 2025, since his election, Republicans have been gloating about it’s implementation being first on the agenda. A complete about face.

What Is Proposed?

So what does this mean for our industry? Project 2025 proposes a complete ban on all pornography in The United States. Kevin Roberts, a chief architect of Project 2025 said “Pornography should be outlawed. The people who produce and distribute it should be imprisoned.” He also said “Educators and public librarians who purvey it should be classed as registered sex offenders. And telecommunications and technology firms that facilitate its spread should be shuttered.”

Obviously ideas are a vast departure from the freedoms guaranteed by The First Amendment. But with a stranglehold on every branch of government, it is likely that Republicans will get their way. Constitutional rights mean nothing if they are disregarded and unenforced. But that is precisely what is proposed in Project 2025. Even if new laws are created and then challenged all the way to The Supreme Court, it is unlikely they would do anything but endorse it. Just like they did when they struck down Roe v. Wade, they will use something somebody wrote some time long ago to justify why porn should be illegal, instead of protected.

Making America Great Again?

In Project 2025, the plan is to attack the adult industry under a First Amendment suit. A legal standard for pornography was created by SCOTUS in 1972. The Miller vs California decision determined that porn is protected by the First Amendment, as long as it passes a three-pronged test. It must be seen as appropriate by the ‘average’ community member, it is not clearly offensive as determined by applicable state law, and that it has some literary, artistic, political, or scientific value. This is average porn in a defined sense, and this is why the adult industry has been able to survive and thrive.

But don’t think for a moment that they aren’t serious. This ban would not only apply to visual porn, but also ANY CONTENT that could be consider pornographic. Even books like Fifty Shades of Grey and Game of Thrones could fall under this ban, simply because of what the words depict by what they say. It is so extreme, one must wonder if Bibles are going to be banned. This is just how extreme these ideas are. The Bible, The Koran, The Kama Sutra and many more religious books could end up on the banned list. Not just banned at libraries. Banned from distribution and sale in the entire country period.

What’s Next?

It’s hard to tell at the moment where this will all end up. We are still digesting the implications of the election, and trying to grasp a new reality where the things that once mattered to us and possibly going to be destroyed. On the one hand, it’s hard to grasp that reality as actually happening. On the other hand, did you see what SCOTUS just did to Row v. Wade? Did you see how MAGA voters just endorsed those actions with their vote? They mean business, friends. It’s time to take that very seriously, because here it comes!
